Hensol Castle is a photographer’s dream because of its variety. The 15-acre serpentine lake and the wooden jetty(pontoon) are iconic for those wide, cinematic "fairytale" shots, especially during golden hour. For indoor portraits, the sweeping grand staircase and the Oak Room offer incredible natural light and historic texture that look stunning regardless of the weather.
One of the reasons I love Hensol is that the "Plan B" is just as beautiful as Plan A. The castle’s Gothic architectureprovides plenty of sheltered spots like the stone porch and the covered courtyard. Inside, the high ceilings and large windows of the Drawing Room allow us to capture elegant, airy portraits without ever stepping outside into the Welsh rain
Absolutely. While the Courtyard Hall is great for large parties, the Morning Room is a perfect, light-filled space for smaller ceremonies. My photography style at Hensol focuses on capturing the "feeling" of the space, ensuring that even in a grand castle, your intimate wedding feels cozy, personal, and connected.
Yes! The way the sun sets over the lake at the back of the castle is spectacular. I usually suggest sneaking away for 10–15 minutes during your drinks reception or just after the wedding breakfast to catch that soft, low light by the water. It’s also a nice moment for you two to have a quiet breather away from the crowd.
The Oak Room is beautiful but can be moody due to the dark wood panelling. I specialize in using available natural light from the large arched windows to keep the photos looking authentic. When the sun goes down, I use subtle, off-camera lighting to preserve the atmospheric, candlelit vibe of the castle rather than washing it out with a bright flash.
